One Great Season

I lived in Cincinnati for a total of 14 years, and while I never really became a huge Reds fan, I'm glad a lot of good friends and loyal fans got to enjoy a thrilling win and NL Central Division title Tuesday night.

Jay Bruce led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to centerfield to give the home team a 3-2 win, clinching the Reds' first postseason appearance in 15 years.

My boys John Fay and Mark Sheldon are all over the coverage for you at The Cincinnati Enquirer and Reds.com, respectively.

And naturally, Reds fans — and of course, some haters — had a few things to say on Twitter late Tuesday. Cincinnati resident Chad Ochocinco surprisingly had nothing to Tweet about his baseball buddies. Anyway, here's a sampling:

@maualuga58: "Congrats to the Cincinnati Reds for clinching the NL Central division. #awesomeness"

@JoeStrauss: "A crowd of 30,151 watched Reds' clincher at Great American. Cards haven't had crowd that small all season. #CincyOnFire"

@amyeditress: "lifting a glass of Maker's 46 to toast the #Reds--it seems appropriate. #redwax"

@justinrowland: "It's gonna be great to see the #Reds play some October baseball. Can't wait!!"

@sweetmelissakae: "Twitter has truly enhanced my #Reds experience...sharing this season with my Reds tweeps is really special. Thank you all."

@DaggumRoy: "@ukberger Who remembers the 1990 World Series Reds - A's Game 3? Not me. Puke, blackout in bathrm, 21st Bday. Been long time comin, Reds!"

@MARudnick: "The Reds & Rangers are going to the playoffs. The Chiefs are undefeated. Tiger and Lebron are the most disliked athletes. What an odd year."

@Kjthegreat: "Let me say something #stlcards fans won't say ... Congratulations to the #Reds on winning the Central, you outplayed us and you deserve it."

@spacemnkymafia: "Just saw the Bruce homer. What a moment. As late as August I thought the Reds would fade and were still a year away. I was wrong. Congrats."

@SaLouUjv: "Reds win division. Downtown celebrates. Sam is guaranteed to be miserable at work in the morning."

@sTuckBeats: "I was born in Cincy. The Reds haven't made the playoffs since I was 3. This is big."

@car724: "Dude, that's a cool way to clinch, Reds."

@PJKraegel: "The Reds are gay. On a level similar to the Cubs. But not as gay."

@jhansenout1: "I've been a Reds fan all my life, despite some St Louis straying in college. Excited for playoffs, despite knowing we'll be swept."

@dpgeeezy: "Congrats to the reds for making the playoffs. but does anybody really think that rotation can hang with the giants/phillies?"

@pdsnyder: "Apparently Jay Bruce is The Dude. And he abides."

@krazyglue: "Irony: #Reds win NL Central under the leadership of Mgr Dusty Baker, a Dodger during the Big Red Machine era!"
