Pictures From The 2011 Big East Tournament

Picture of Marquette Cheerleader

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

OGS isn't credentialed for the Big East Tournament, but a scalped ticket allowed me to at least get in the building, and a 200mm lens got me a few shots of Wednesday night's action.

Our group moved around some, but we saw exactly what we hoped for: a big win by Cincinnati in the first game and an exciting one in the nightcap. It would have been nice to see old friend Bob Huggins and his West Virginia Mountaineers advance, but Marquette was too much in the second half of game two.

When we weren't getting booted from seats, looking for better ones or making a beer run, we actually sat down and I was able to snap off a few frames. Enjoy the gallery.

In Pictures: The Barnstable Brown Gala

Marissa Miller

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

Once again, celebrities rocked the red carpet in the charming Highlands neighborhood of Louisville on a lovely spring evening.

Every year, the Barnstable Brown Gala is one of the biggest draws on the Derby party circuit, and Friday night was no exception.

More Derby Coverage

Marissa Miller was her usual stunning self, Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell were once again all smiles and even local hoops hero John Wall made quite a splash.

The party went well into the night and after shooting some pictures for a couple hours, I had to get a taste for myself. Double-fisted with vodka-tonics and standing on a packed dance floor about five feet away from CBS News legend Bob Schieffer, country star John Michael Montgomery blasted through a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Caught In The Crossfire" on the stage about 25 feet in front of me. It was outstanding.

Here are some pictures of celebrities arriving.

In Pictures: Kentucky Derby 136

Calvin Borel

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

Rain, horses and 155,000 of your closest friends make the Kentucky Derby a photographer's dream.

More Derby Coverage

When the weather is awful like it was Saturday, those getting paid to shoot photos all day are required to brave the elements.

Those who have their own Web sites and are done with their freelancing commitments can afford to sleep in because of a late night the night before.

But I made it out to Churchill Downs in plenty of time for the Derby, and took some pictures of the big race. Enjoy.

The Hot Girls Of The Kentucky Derby

Kentucky Derby

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

Remember the Hot Girls Of College Football gallery you enjoyed so much last fall?

Well, One Great Season is pleased to announced a new slideshow that's very similar.

It's called the Hot Girls Of The Kentucky Derby. Let me know if you have any questions.

I shot these pictures at Churchill Downs on Friday,  good planning by me considering the terrible weather in Saturday's forecast -- not exactly conducive to shooting pictures. But I'll certainly try when I head out there today.

In Pictures: Backside At The 2010 Kentucky Derby

Kentucky Derby

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

Remember how I used to work for FOX? Well, my old boss there is expecting a couple of Kentucky Derby stories from me as I hang out in rainy Louisville this week.

So I went out to Churchill Downs this morning to get a few interviews and while I wait for my cameras to dry out, I figured I'd load some pictures for you to peruse.

Derby Week on the backside is a pretty neat experience. Local and national media converge on Louisville's south end as trainers put their magnificent horses through their early morning workouts.

More Derby Pictures From Years Past

Check back here for links to my stories that will appear on the MyFox network this week, but until then, I'll post some pictures whenever I head out to the track. Enjoy.

Hot Pittsburgh Cheerleader

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

BROOKLYN -- I don't know exactly how many Hot Girls I expect to add to the gallery after Saturday's Army-Navy tilt, so enjoy what looks to be the last good update to your favorite slideshow this season.

I spent the day at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field, watching Cincinnati mount a frantic comeback to win the game, the Big East Conference and the league's automatic BCS bowl bid.

Before Pitt's cheerleaders had their lovely Colgate smiles turned upside down, I was able to get a few shots of the Panther darlings. Click here or on the picture above to begin the gallery.

Cincinnati Bearcats

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

BROOKLYN -- I still can't get over my luck this season. Fifteen years after graduating from the University of Cincinnati and first thinking about pulling off the OGS project, I finally took the leap this fall and as I was busy traveling from city to city, Cincinnati was busy putting together its best season in school history.

And I was there to watch the Bearcats cap off their 12-0 season by beating Pittsburgh in the sport's most exciting game of the year Saturday at Heinz Field.

Cincinnati pulled out an exhilirating 45-44 win over the Panthers, securing its second straight Big East championship and automatic BCS bowl bid.

Watching from the sidelines, I was able to take a few pictures of the great game. Click here or on the picture above for a look at the Gameday Gallery.

Hot Girls Of College Football

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

CLEVELAND -- It was a cold night Friday in Morgantown, but that didn't keep the hot girls from showing up at the very exciting Pittsburgh-West Virginia game.

Decked out in their school colors, fans and cheerleaders alike dueled in the school-spirit category, oh, who am I kidding? I just try to write a couple of paragraphs for this update each week to match the length of the picture to the right.

If you want to look at the Hot Girls of College Football gallery, just click here.

And get a good look while you can. As the season is winding down, there aren't going to be many more Hot Girls gallery updates.

Tyler Bitancourt Kicks Game-Winning Field Goal

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Friday night's game in Morgantown was the 13th on the OGS tour this season, and the first that was decided on the game's final play.

And there I was, indecisive and unprepared about how to shoot Tyler Bitancourt's game-winning field goal as time expired.

If you've been following my project this season, you know I don't come from a photography background, but along the way during my 15-year news career, I figured it might be smart to pick up some shooting skills, as well as a decent camera and lens.

So while I still have some work to do to lens like a serious pro, I think I'm getting better at at least thinking like one. When it became clear the Mountaineers were calling their last two plays with field position in mind, and setting up the decisive field goal, I hurriedly looked around for an angle different from where everyone else would be shooting from. The only thing I had time to do was climb 10 steps up one of the portals into the stands and ask an usher if I could shoot from there, between the 10- and 15-yard lines.

As the teams traded timeouts, I fished around my camera bag for my widest lens -- 18mm -- but it's not a great lens and after I finally got the 200mm off and put the wider lens on, the teams were lining up so I hurriedly pointed the camera and fired away.

In my frantic effort to set up the shot, I'd put the camera on Program mode, assuming it would give me the largest aperture setting. And as you can see by this Photoshopped picture, that was not the case.

Anyway, I did at least like one thing about the picture: Pitt wideout Jonathan Baldwin, whose 50-yard touchdown reception tied the game just a few minutes earlier, shows a vertical leap worthy of a look from Jamie Dixon, efforting albeit unsuccessfully to block Bitancourt's kick.

That was just one picture, and it turned out to be a learning experience, as much of this tour has. Here's the rest of the Gameday Gallery.

Updated Gallery: Hot Girls Of College Football

Hot Girls Of College Football

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

CLEVELAND --  The Thanksgiving holiday has me in the steel belt this week. I'll be bouncing around the next couple of weeks actually between Cleveland to see the family, Morgantown to see the Pittsburgh-West Virginia game Friday and then Pittsburgh for the Dec. 5 game between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

But because it's Tuesday, you know it's time for an updated Hot Girls Of College Football gallery.

Please remember that I was at the Harvard-Yale game over the weekend. That's certainly a great rivalry on the football field and in the history books, but not necessarily conducive to galleries of darling women. We all know Ivy League gals are smart, and I'm sure they have great personalities, but even on a sunny, pleasant Saturday afternoon, I was only able to find a small handful of pictures for you.

Here's hoping the Backyard Brawl will be a tad sexier this Friday at Mountaineer Field.

TCU Cheerleader

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

BROOKLYN -- After a nice 36-hour break at home in Brooklyn, I'm ready this morning to head up to New Haven, Conn., where I'll be spending the week in preparation for the great Harvard-Yale rivalry.

But since it's Tuesday morning, I couldn't possibly forget to update the Hot Girls Of College Football gallery. I know you have certain things you look forward to, and this surely is one of them.

If you and your buddies are trying to figure out a college football road trip, TCU isn't a bad spot. They play some pretty good football down there in Fort Worth, and the scenery is outstanding.

TCU Routs Utah

BROOKLYN -- Yeah, that's right. I'm in Brooklyn.

After two hours of sleep last night, I got to DFW Airport at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, and promptly learned the flight I'd booked two days earlier was actually for first thing Monday morning. A couple hundred bucks later, Jane at the U.S. Airways desk had me on a 7 a.m. flight for Hartford.

I got into Connecticut, where I'll be covering Harvard-Yale this week, at about 2 p.m. and arrived at my apartment in Brooklyn a few hours later. It's the first time I've been home since late August.

Anyway, after some pizza and a nap, I finally got the Gameday Gallery ready for you to enjoy. It was quite a game in Fort Worth, and TCU seems a complete enough team that the Horned Frogs can compete against anybody in a national championship game. They're no longer a cute little defense-only program. They've got speed, power and finesse on offense to complement that nasty defense. I'm certainly a fan. That is a legit football team and I think TCU would give the top three a better game than Cincinnati or Boise State would.

OK, so here's the Gameday Gallery. Check back Tuesday for an updated Hot Girls Of College Football gallery. Also on tap this week is a recap of my Kirk Herbstreit interview ... that never happened, as well as a friend's description of getting kicked out of Notre Dame Stadium during last week's loss to Navy.

Penn State cheerleader

FORT WORTH, Texas -- It was a beautiful day for football at Beaver Stadium Saturday, and the only thing as lovely as the weather in central Pennsylvania over the weekend was the collection of darlings gathered in Happy Valley.

PLEASE DONATE Just One Dollar Today!

Most of them came out to see the home team, the Penn State Nittany Lions, but it was the team from Ohio that pulled out the key Big Ten victory. So please forgive some of the Penn State pretties pictured in this gallery if they aren't wearing their best smiles.

USC at Oregon: The Day In Pictures

Oregon fan in costume

By JOHN P. WISE
One Great Season

EUGENE, Oregon -- Last week was a pretty interesting one for me. I had credential requests in at both Oregon and Oklahoma State, but hadn't heard back from either, so I just rolled the dice and booked a surprisingly cheap one-way flight last Sunday for Eugene on Monday.

And just as I pulled my rental car up to the fine folks at Enterprise, hustling into the airport to make my cross-country trek, the Blackberry beeped and it was Oregon University telling me they had no room on the sideline for me for Saturday's game at Autzen Stadium against USC.

And then a day or two later, I checked my Junk e-mail folder and found that my credential request for Texas-Oklahoma State had been approved.

But I stayed in Eugene and hit a practice one day, and took in the town for a few more, and was invited by a nice bartender to buy his extra ticket at face value. So my dude Tim and I hit the game yesterday, and I was lucky to learn first-hand what all the fuss is about at Autzen Stadium. It really was the zoo I heard it was going to be, and add to that the fact that many were rockin' some unusual Halloween looks.

So if you want some USC-Oregon visuals, here are some pictures from the game -- most from 38 rows up -- and more images of UO fans sporting their holiday finest. And of course, check back Monday for an updated Hot Girls of College Football gallery.
