No Sophomore Jinx For Kelly, Chizik
One Great Season
Remember when I wrote this?
Me too, and regardless of which team wins the BCS Championship in Glendale, Ariz., next month, a second-year head coach will hoist the crystal Coaches' Trophy for the fourth time in 11 seasons. That's actually pretty impressive.
OREGON: Are Ducks America's Team?
Bob Stoops did it at Oklahoma in 2000, Jim Tressel turned the trick two years later at Ohio State and Urban Meyer won it at Florida in 2006. Stoops and Tressel each would play in two more title games, losing both times. And Meyer won another championship in 2008.
So what does all this tell us? Not a whole heck of a lot, other than maybe Oregon coach Chip Kelly or Auburn's Gene Chizik could very well be putting the early moves on a decade of dominance. If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Kelly.
And for guys who will be second-year coaches in 2011? Keep an eye on Brian Kelly at Notre Dame, probation-saddled Lane Kiffin at USC, Derek Dooley at Tennessee, Louisville's Charlie Strong, Kentucky's Joker Phillips and Texas Tech boss Tommy Tuberville.
Of the coaches above, who do you think might make some noise next season?

Joker's going to be fortunate to have a job after next season if he doesn't improve quickly. Charlie Strong has been made out to be the next Bear Bryant in Louisville. However, he went 6-6 in a horrible (can't emphasize that enough) horrible Big East. They just won a meaningless bowl game against a bad CUSA team last night thanks to a blown fumble call (one of the worst I've ever seen in my fandom).
Dooley is like a mad scientist. He looks like a nut, but he's getting some good recruits and I think Tennessee's down years may be behind them.
And, I'm still waiting for Lane Kiffin to earn all the money and attention he's getting. He's college football's Justin Beiber.
You 'bet' on Kelly being able to establish 'an era of dominance', but you don't tell us why. Would the conference they play in have something to do with it? Would the week to week prospects of facing teams that will knock you jock off have something to do with it? Playing in the PAC vs the SEC!!?
That's an easy pick Mr. Wise, it didn't take much wisdom however.
But, you will be wrong, Oregon will not dominate even the PAC.
