I don't deny that the flag came late, but it was definitely the right call. Can you disagree with this? Looks to me like Miami's Glenn Sharpe is all over OSU's Chris Gamble. What do you think?

I see nothing but great defense. It's a shame that a program with a sparkling image and tradition of good sportsmanship has to be subjected to this injustice. Sersiously, though, garbage call. Even that soccer referee from Mali thinks that's weak. P.S. I hate all things Ohio State and grew up loving Miami football. However I have absolutely no bias in my posts.
of course your post was biased. though faceguarding is not technically a rule, whenever a defender does not remotely try to find the ball and makes contact with the receiver before the ball gets there, it will be called pass interference EVERY TIME. in the 2nd ot you guys got the same call in the endzone, and failed to capitalize on 1st and goal from the 2. this picture should be shown to all miami fans so that they could finally stop crying.
It's not a rule, but they will call it. Good argument.
what nobody talks about in that game is the ref made the same call against the bucks during miami's first ot possesion, the only difference was the winslow caught the td pass. The flag was still thrown, and the refs were consistent with their calling, which is all the teams can axe for.
4th and 14 to jenkins usually settles this also.
What people also forget get about is a bad call that kept Miami in the game in the fourth quarter. On the Buckeyes last possession in the 4th quarter, third down, Michael Jenkins made the first down catch. The refs ruled in incomplete, but on the replay it looked like a catch, and the commentators even thought so. Had that call went the Bucks way, they likely could have run out the clock and won in regulation.
Geeez. Nobody gets this play. The call was for defensive holding. Porter, the referee, even admitted later that he did the right thing by throwing the flag. He just signaled pass interference instead of holding. In fact, I think at first he did signal defensive holding and then changed it to pass interference. Either way, it has nothing to do with the picture above or the end of that play that has been replayed thousands of times since that game. It happened at the beginning of the play, when Gamble was held during his route. The ref just took forever to call it for some reason. I guess he wanted to be really sure.
My only comment is to please note the left hand (don't know what else it could be) wrapped around Gamble's back. Pretty sure hugging the receiver with the ball in the air would qualify as pass interference no matter how the refs are calling the game.
If this was such a garbage call, how come it was considered one of the 18 best offical calls in sports history? How come, when they reviewed it the next day, officals all agreed it was the correct call, and actually there were 3 other fouls on that play that could have been called as well!
This game should have never went into overtime; there was a clear roughing passer penalty, holding the receiver (Which Gamble still caught the freakin ball!)...all blown calls that would have resulted in a first down, Ohio State Ball with minute and half left, game over. Also, there was a block in the back on that long kickoff return at the end of the game, which set up Cryami's field goal, DID I MENTION THAT?
Either way, game over, Ohio State wins, Miami had 4 tries at the 1 yard line to score a TD, so they didn't deserve to win- (Miami fan) "Actually it was at the 2 yard line" Lol, it doesn't matter!!!

The defender, Sharpe, is not looking for the ball at all and he is all over the receiver, Gamble.
Holding, Pass Interference, Facemask -- Take your pick....All of them occurred on this play!

What do I think?!? I think who ever put this picture up should not be allowed in any football related discussions ever again... Was that too subtle? For those OSU fans with a 2 digit IQ, I'll try to explain...This picture was taken AFTER the ball had already hit Gamble in both hands! Guess what morons!? Once the ball touches the receivers hands, any contact after that is fair game. Try and justify it all you want, but that was one of the worst calls in history of the game...made by the back judge who wasn't even the closest ref to the play. Really OSU?! THIS picture is what you're using trying to convince yourselves that the only title you've one in 40 years wasn't handed to you by a ghost call? That's laughable...just like all the hype around Pryor (and the hype around Smith before that). It's all right. I'm glad OSU is being hyped up. That'll just worsen the fall when UM exposes you on Saturday...the same way Florida did.
The call is indefensible. And the facemask and defensive holding arguements are about as weak as they come...last ditch efforts at rationalizing the call. The ref wanted to be soo "super duper" sure that it took him about 6 seconds from when the alleged "holding" took place to throw the flag. That's BS! He threw the flag for pass interference because he intended to throw it for pass interference and if you OSU fans actually took a second to breakdown the word "pass interference", you would notice how difficult it is to defend the call when the receiver got BOTH hands on the ball. aka had EVERY opportunity to make the play. aka was not interfered with. aka he just choked.

and the hype around harris will go bout as far as pat white, at least troy has a few years in the nfl with more to come! miami is in florida but is not florida, 38-16 BUCKS!!
I'm no canes fan and I really didn't care about the outcome of this game, but I have to agree with "G" on this one. This picture was taken after the ball had already hit Gamble's hands and it only takes one look at the video to confirm that. And how exactly can you tell if there was a "pefect spiral" from a still pic like this one??? That's a dumb comment. Whatever, should be a good game this weekend.

...like we got beat. It was a good win for OSU. I definitely wasn't expecting us to throw 4 picks in the game. The outcome may have been different otherwise. We all know you can't win a game playing like that....unless, of course, the ref makes a totally bogus call that changes the outcome of the game...or something along those lines.

The ball had already hit Gamble? That explains why his hands are opened and waiting on the ball. Nice try though. There were so many no-calls in this game before OT that should have sent the Buckeyes home with the trophy, its not even funny. Usually the ones that ya hear crying about this game are either diehard cane fans or people that lost money on this game thinking 14 points was a sure thing. Get over it.
