College Football Notebook: Week 2 Review

One Great Season
Week 2 is in the books and I'm back in New York, fresh off my visit to Columbus to watch Ohio State's easy defeat of Miami.
Let's get right into the notes for today:
+ Through two games, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson leads the nation with an average of 442 total yards per contest. Fifty miles down the road, the University of Toledo has amassed a total of 395 yards in its first two games.

Robinson's total of 885 yards is better than the total offensive outputs by 79 FBS teams that have played two games so far in 2010.
+ Kirk Herbstreit shared some good analysis on his Columbus-area radio show Monday. He said although Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor didn't complete a high percentage of his passes in the Buckeyes' defeat of Miami Saturday, he's still encouraged by the junior's performances so far in OSU's two season-opening wins.
Herbie said it looks like the game has slowed down for Pryor tremendously, and that's the first step in a key chain reaction for a developing quarterback. "Once the game slows down, you make better decisions. And when you make better decisions, your footwork is better. And when your footwork is better, your throws are more accurate." Again, Pryor wasn't overly accurate Saturday, but he'll have a few easy games to work on that before OSU's next big test at Wisconsin on Oct. 16.
+ Where the Big East had a rough opening weekend -- road losses for league contenders Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Connecticut -- the ACC had an even worse Week 2. Florida State and Georgia Tech lost bad games on the road, and Virginia Tech lost to James Madison at home in an upset almost as big as Michigan's 2007 failure against Appalachian State.
On notice for Week 3? The Big 10 has a few tough tests: Iowa visits Arizona, Minnesota welcomes USC and Michigan State gets a visit from Notre Dame. Wisconsin should handle Arizona State, but as Virginia Tech is learning so far in 2010, there are no gimmies.
+ Speedy Florida wideout Chris Rainey allegedly sent a text message to an ex-girlfriend that read, "Time to die" on Monday. Rainey was eventually charged with aggravated stalking, a third-degree felony, according to an ESPN report. He was released from jail Tuesday, but Florida coach Urban Meyer has suspended him from the team indefinitely.
+ Miami football coaches have told players to shut down their Twitter accounts, according to a Tweet from @hurricanesports: "Football program has asked players to shut down Twitter accounts. Goal is to limit distractions & focus. Bigger goals than TWEETING." Quarterback Jacory Harris (@JacoryHarris12) hasn't sent one since Sunday night.
